Surakarta, September 13, 2025 – “Only Religion Makes Suffering Sufferable.” This profound message became the core theme of the Visiting Lecture hosted by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (FM UMS), focusing on “Islamic Palliative Care Approach in Surgical Cases and Multiple Comorbid Geriatrics.”
The event was held at the Abu Bakar Ash-Shidiq Auditorium, 5th floor of FM UMS, and attended in a hybrid format. More than 300 participants, including lecturers, academic staff, and undergraduate and professional medical students, joined onsite and online.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. dr. Sagiran, Sp.B, Subsp.KL(K), M.Kes, FICS from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (FKIK UMY). The session was moderated by dr. Adam Fauzi Akbar, M.Biomed, lecturer at FM UMS.
During his presentation, Dr. Sagiran introduced the concept of HU CARE (Husnul-khotimah Care), a holistic approach to patient care that embraces both physical and spiritual dimensions. He emphasized that palliative care should not be limited to medical interventions, but must also accompany patients and their families through their spiritual journey.

This Visiting Lecture had a strong impact on FM UMS and its academic community. For the participants, the session expanded their understanding that Islamic Palliative Care is an integral part of family medicine—covering promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative aspects. For FM UMS, the event reinforced its identity as an Islamic medical faculty committed to advancing holistic health care for the benefit of humanity. Moreover, the values embodied in HU CARE are expected to inspire the development of more humane, just, and dignified health services across the community.
