The Community Service Team of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has launched an application that supports maternal and child healthcare services. The application is called Si-Bunda, short for Sistem Informasi untuk Kesehatan Bunda dan Ananda (Information System for Maternal and Child Health).
The team leader, Dr. dr. Yusuf Alam Romadhon, Sp.KKLP., M.Kes., FISQua., said that Si-Bunda is integrated with the national identification number. The application helps simplify the recording of a child’s weight, height, and health education.
“Si-Bunda is presented as a digital solution for managing and recording child growth data, as well as a health learning hub for mothers,” Yusuf said when contacted via messaging app on Friday (22/8/2025).
Yusuf explained that Si-Bunda is currently in the soft launching stage. The initial launch was held at the Trangsan Village Hall, Gatak Subdistrict, Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, on Wednesday, 20 August 2025. The event was attended by Trangsan Village Head Mujiman, Trangsan village Midwife Ratih, and the Posyandu Flamboyan cadre team of Trangsan Village.
Si-Bunda is intended for pregnant women, mothers preparing for childbirth, and breastfeeding mothers. The target users are 350 mothers and 20 pregnant women in Trangsan Village.
Si-Bunda is also equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) devices for recording children’s weight and height. Yusuf noted that the use of IoT will make it easier to record the weight of children over two years old who are unable to attend the posyandu.
“This system is directly connected to the mother’s account, so the data is automatically recorded according to the posyandu where the child is registered,” Yusuf explained.
The Si-Bunda application also features electronic learning modules designed for mothers. The modules are presented in interactive video format, short learning materials, and pre-test and post-test quizzes.
The modules in the Si-Bunda app include: Kelas Ibu Hamil (I–III); Menjadi Ibunda Hebat; 1000 Hari Pertama Kehidupan sebagai Fondasi Kehidupan; Ciri Anak Sehat dan Konsep Asah, Asih, Asuh; Nutrisi Tepat untuk Tumbuh Kembang Optimal; and Gerakan Tutup Mulut pada Anak dan Cara Mengatasinya.
Yusuf claimed that Si-Bunda stands out because of its simple features. This simplicity is expected to make it easier for mothers to access and utilize the Si-Bunda application.
The Si-Bunda application also allows posyandu to transition from manual recording to a digital system. This process is claimed to ease the workload of village midwives in data collection, report preparation, and making quick intervention decisions when notifications appear indicating a child with nutritional concerns.
The UMS Faculty of Medicine lecturer said that the development of Si-Bunda was funded through a grant under the Community Partnership Service scheme of the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
Yusuf also involved UMS Faculty of Medicine lecturer dr. Anika Candrasari, M.Kes, Sp.KKLP., UMS Informatics Engineering lecturer Azizah Fatmawati, S.T., M.Cs., as well as two UMS medical students, Muhammad Adnan and Nor Hilyati.
The application has been in development for one month, covering both IoT integration and the web platform. Yusuf targets the application to begin partial operations in early September.
“Fully operational, God willing, by the end of October. This includes operational monitoring. By November, we will carry out evaluations and prepare the final report,” he added.
Yusuf hoped that the Si-Bunda application will help improve the knowledge, skills, and awareness of mothers in Trangsan Village as they support their children’s growth and development.
“We hope the mothers of Trangsan can ensure their children grow healthy, smart, and strong,” he emphasized.
