In commemoration of National Health Day and World Diabetes Day (WDD) 2025, the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (FK UMS), in collaboration with the Indonesian Society of Family Physicians (PDSKKI) Central Java Branch, conducted a community service program focused on improving the quality of life of individuals living with diabetes. The activity took place at Puskesmas Gatak, Sukoharjo, on Saturday (15/11/2025), targeting 30 participants of the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis).
The educational and mentoring session was led by Dr. dr. Yusuf Alam Romadhon, M.Kes., SpKKLP, FISQua, FISPH, FISCM, together with dr. Anika Candrasari, Sp.KKLP, FISPH, FISCM, and supported by medical students of FK UMS who assisted as field facilitators.
Amid the rising number of diabetes cases in Indonesia, secondary prevention plays a vital role in reducing complications such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disorders, neuropathy, and even amputation. The collaboration between FK UMS and PDSKKI reflects the institution’s strong commitment to providing community health education and strengthening the quality of primary healthcare services.
Throughout the program, participants received comprehensive education on lifestyle management, adherence to therapy, proper blood glucose monitoring, and early recognition of complications. The medical team also analyzed laboratory results to help participants understand their individual health status and recommend appropriate follow-up actions.
The enthusiasm of Prolanis members was evident through their active participation in discussions on diet, physical activity, and daily diabetes control strategies. This interactive educational approach is expected to enhance participant motivation in managing their condition sustainably.
This initiative represents a strong synergy between FK UMS, PDSKKI, and Puskesmas Gatak in strengthening promotive and preventive healthcare at the primary care level. FK UMS emphasizes that similar mentoring programs will continue as a tangible contribution to improving public health and supporting the achievement of good health and well-being.
