October 17, 2025 — The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (FK UMS), through the Baitul Insan Kamil (BIK) Clinical Rotation Program, held a health education session entitled “Smart Steps for Handling Surface Impact Injuries: The R.I.C.E Principle in First Aid” at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta.
The session was led by Yulia Intan Kania, S.Ked., under the supervision of dr. Hitaputra Agung Wardhana, Sp.B., FINACS (Central Public Hospital) and dr. Listiana Masyita Dewi, M.Sc. from the Faculty of Medicine, UMS.
The activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge and skills in administering first aid for minor injuries, particularly those caused by surface impact to the body. The material focused on the application of the R.I.C.E method (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) as a quick and effective response to injuries before further medical treatment is obtained.
The session was delivered interactively through hands-on simulations, allowing participants to understand and practice the R.I.C.E principles correctly. It is hoped that after participating in this activity, students will have the foundational ability to administer first aid independently and correctly, both within the school environment and in the wider community.
This session also represents a tangible form of community service by UMS medical students in support of health promotion and prevention efforts among teenagers.
