Surakarta, October 19, 2025 — Medical students from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (FK UMS), who are members of the Medical Assistance Team (Tim Bantuan Medis/TBM) Gyrus, successfully organized the Semifinal and Final Rounds of the First Aid Competition (LPP) and the Quiz Competition (LCC) for high school students and their equivalents who are members of the Youth Red Cross (Palang Merah Remaja/PMR) across the Surakarta Residency area. This activity is part of the annual program Gyrus In Action (GIA) 2025, a series of educational and competitive events designed to raise awareness and improve basic health skills among teenagers. Through this event, participants were encouraged to sharpen their critical thinking, enhance their basic medical knowledge, and develop first aid skills to respond effectively in emergency situations.

The implementation of GIA 2025 also serves as a tangible collaboration between TBM Gyrus FK UMS and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Sukoharjo City, both of which share a strong commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities within school environments. The event took place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Skillab Room and Lecture Halls of FK UMS Campus IV. The semifinal and final rounds were attended by 10 First Aid teams and 19 Quiz teams that successfully advanced through the online preliminary selection. In total, 33 PMR teams from various senior high schools across the Surakarta Residency enthusiastically participated in this prestigious competition.

The event’s chairperson, Aufa Ahmad, emphasized that this activity was not solely about competition but also carried significant educational and character-building values. “Through this competition, we hope PMR students can hone their practical skills and deepen their understanding, so they are prepared to provide proper and prompt first aid when needed,” he stated.

The competition results reflected the participants’ strong enthusiasm and excellent performance. In the First Aid Competition, first place was awarded to SMAN 1 Surakarta, followed by SMAN 1 Karanganyar in second place and SMAN 1 Sragen in third place. In the Quiz Competition, SMA ABBS Surakarta won first place, followed by SMAN 1 Sragen as second place and SMAN 1 Karanganyar as third place. Based on the overall results from both competition categories, SMAN 1 Sragen was named the Overall Champion of Gyrus In Action 2025.

Through this event, TBM Gyrus FK UMS once again reaffirmed its commitment to developing the potential of young generations and supporting efforts to enhance public health and safety awareness. Such activities are expected to serve as a sustainable platform for fostering leadership, solidarity, and social responsibility among students, while also strengthening the synergy between educational institutions and humanitarian organizations in nurturing a generation that is responsive, compassionate, and capable of contributing meaningfully to society.
